Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 slices swiss cheese
  • 1 handful mixed greens
  • 1 heaping tablespoon fig preserves
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 3 slices prosciutto
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 5 to 6 fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  • For the dressing or sauce, mix the fig preserves and lemon juice, and set it aside.
  • Toast a slice of bread with olive oil in a pan. While toasting the second slice, after one side is toasted, flip the bread so the untoasted side is down. Place the two slices of cheese on the toasted side, cover the pan, and let the cheese melt.
  • Add mixed greens to the toast with melted cheese, drizzle with the fig sauce, and top with prosciutto. Spread the remaining fig sauce on the second slice of toast.
  • Close the sandwich by pressing the two slices together.

Notes

  • Prosciutto is delicate and can tear easily, so when adding it to your sandwich, gently fold the slices rather than laying them flat. This creates a more layered texture and helps distribute its salty, savory flavor evenly throughout the sandwich.
