Vegetable Chowmein Recipe/ Vegetable Stir Fried Noodles

This is a quick & easy vegetable chowmein recipe. Chowmein is particularly popular in Chinese restaurants. It translates to “stir fried noodles” in english. So, here’s a veg chow mein recipe– step by step, in a video and also a written recipe.

It is popular in many countries and every country seems to have customised the recipe to suit their taste. This veg chowmein recipe here is modified mostly to indian taste because am an Indian. It’s like the Indo Chinese recipes we get in chinese restaurants in india and on the streets.

I always add some tomato ketchup because I like the sweet- tangy flavour it adds to the noodles. You can serves this chowmein with some sauces or as it is.

Ingredients: [for 1]

  • Noodles- 60g/ single pack
  • Oil- to fry
  • Soy sauce- 3/4 tbsp
  • Vinegar- 1 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup- 1/2 tbsp (or chilli sauce)
  • Black pepper powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Salt- according to taste
  • Garlic- 3 to 4 cloves (finely chopped)
  • Ginger- 1/2 inch (finely chopped)
  • Capsicum- 1/2 small (julienned)
  • Onion- 1/2 small (julienned)
  • Carrot- 1/2 small (julienned)

Recipe to make chinese vegetable chowmein:

  • Take a pan, add in 3 cups of water. Let it reach a rolling boil, then add in the noodles. Let the noodles boil. It takes about 10 to 12 minutes for the noodles to cook and become tender.
  • After they’re boiled, strain them and add in 1/2 tsp of oil to them. Mix the oil well.
  • Then, take a pan and add in oil. Heat the oil and let it become really hot; after which add in chopped ginger and garlic to it. Fry them and then add in onions and let them turn golden brown in colour.
  • Then add in capsicum and carrots. Fry all the vegetables together. Then, add in the cooked noodles. Mix everything well with a fork and a spoon. Then add in tomato ketchup, black pepper powder, red chilli powder and salt. Stir everything well and you’re done!
  • Chinese vegeatble chowmein is ready to be served.
